SEGI Machinery was founded in 1962 by the late Mr. Chang-hoon Lee, a veteran in mechanical engineering. The company started to supply Arm stitcher. It was the time when Korea was struggling to reconstruct the nation’s industrial base and economy that was completely devastated by three-year Korean War in 1950s.
“Back then we experienced shortage of almost everything we needed in daily life. That is why I believed manufacturing is indeed the foundation for rebuilding a nation, and fortunately it was the sector that I knew well and was good at,” Mr. Lee used to recall. “What I could do for my country was to make a simple but fully reliable automated production line and supply at a reasonable price.”
In 1972, after 10 years of hard work and dedication, with the joining capital investors, SEGI Machinery has re-named to SECHANG Machinery and developed its first prototype 2-color printer and rotary slitter machine for corrugated box makers and soon became a dominant supplier in the domestic market.
In 1980s, SECHANG Machinery decided not to rest on its laurels and instead made extensive R&D investment. Years of research paid off when it successfully developed a Flexo Folder Gluer for the first time in Korea and that meant SECHANG Machinery was ready to cross the threshold from a regional leader to become a global supplier.
In 1994, current managing director JK Lee, son of the founder, joined the company. “I was working as an engineer at US Army Corps of Engineers and could not give up 35-year family business when my father had deceased with no successor” JK Lee confesses.
“I understood that the company was at a critical juncture in its effort to grow as a global supplier and was excited about being a part of that great journey.“
Since 1995 when its first machine export was made to the United Arab Emirates, SECHANG Machinery has been supplying its equipment and services to international customers. With many trials and errors especially in technically challenging projects, we have never neglected our responsibility for customer satisfaction and rather strived to surpass customer expectation.
